It's been a while since I made a post around here, especially about something not completely related to Pendulum. If you attend the same message boards as I do, maybe you've heard I wanted to create a remix version of that game, with updated high-res graphics and whatnot. In the end, it won't happen. I've been unable to find a reliable artist throughout the past month (the idea was to outsource the art overhaul and invest my own time in doing whatever), which with every attempt made me lose interest bit by bit. Now seeing how my sales basically came to a dead stop, I came to the conclusion that I'm better off starting anew and investing my resources into a completely different project.
The game will be a 2D action RPG (with sex!), in similar fashion as Odin Sphere, where you run around looped levels, while your goal is to defeat all enemies. The protagonist will use body deformation as means of fighting her foes, as in she'll be able to turn her arm into any deadly shape I can think of. Killing stuff with that thing, together with magic and awesome combos, to me sounds like a fun way to spend your evening. It's still too early in development for me to have any more details to reveal for now, so keep checking in.
You had me at 'main character concept'.
ReplyDeleteYeah, this looks to be one of the more interesting character concepts. It's not in every game which features this kind of, almost slaanesh kind of features! That's bad ass right there!
ReplyDeleteThat looks quite boss, that does. Can't see wait to see where it goes, and is are the game graphics going to be like the concept art, or a lower res?
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for the graphics to look like this, though I'll be able to say for sure only after I have the GDD ready and we can tell whether drawing and animating a game of this scale in this art style won't just make us miss the deadline. It'll be high-res either way, though.
DeleteFirst, what's a GDD?
DeleteSecond, (in my opinion) it would be time consuming to draw and animate in that style, although depending on how you go about it, it might not be so consuming.
I've seen art like that done with flash games, where they have each body part (fully drawn) on a different layer, and re position them each frame, although that did tend to produce a somewhat visible "still" effect, as everything on the drawing remained static (the clothing, hair, shading, etc). It probably (never done it myself) didn't take as much time, although it left cons (static motion).
You could redraw the character each frame, but that would definitely be more time consuming (lineart, flat colors, shades), although you'd also definitely get a more fluid feel in the animation (which is always delicious), as you'd redo the clothes, shading, hair, etc.
Also also, you could just redraw on the keyframes, and use layered body parts on the inbetweens, that might make it take less time, but also remove some of the fluid feel.
This is all speculation on my part, as I don't know exactly how many different animations, characters, scenes, etc, you have planned, nor how many artists would be working on it.
Third, what is GDD? (It's bugging me, I keep thinking Graphic Design Department, lol.)
My curiosity aside, I still can't wait to see where this goes.
GDD stands for 'game design document'--it's basically a to-do list, only with stuff like detailed descriptions for every piece of content, visual references, and whatnot. When a producer sees a game on paper, only then he can really judge how much work is involved in each aspect of development--the quality and amount of content has to be adjusted so that the team is able to meet the deadline and not exceed the budget.
DeleteAs for art style--well, my guy said drawing in this style is very easy and not so time consuming. I'll just go ahead and believe him, since he basically drew that image in like half an hour, after I sent him design specifications. We elaborated a bit on the topic of having the game drawn in the same style as Odin Sphere, but even though my guy could do it, we most certainly wouldn't meet our deadline.
He drew that in about half an hour?
Delete...only now do I realize how much I still have to learn. -___-
Thanks for telling me what GDD stands for, too, and good luck with making the game!
You took the trouble of posting your other game at FutanariPalace (despite not having anything to do with Futanari and even posted it in the wrong section -_-;)
ReplyDeleteWill this game have futanari?
That's why I posted it in the section dedicated to game development, instead of futa stuff :x.
DeleteI plan to implement at least some futa content, like one or two scenes.
i love the idea of this game, honestly i was intrigued but not interested in the 1th game but this, i really love this idea.
ReplyDeletethe only thing i would say is i think the main char should look "cuter" but this design will work (just personal thoughts anyways)
but just to ask you, (like how the last guy wanted futanari) do you know what you want in the game or are you just taking ideas for now? (maybe tentacles for example since they will fit the it)
but if this goes well i will buy this game :3 (when i get the money lol) i just hope you use somehting like paypal (i don't really like/can't use DLsite lol)
General badassery requires a badass protagonist. Look at the arm! LOOK AT THE ARM, GOD DAMMIT! ;D
DeleteI'd like to address most of the popular fetishes with at least one scene for each, though the majority will be just regular sex, I guess. There are a few fetishes that you definitely won't see, like guro, straight-up ryona, or scat--we want to have the scenes revolve around, well, sex.
*something (i hate my keyboard sometimes) when i said that i was talking about the hair (i like the colors but not the look) but thats just me
Deleteby "regular sex" we all know you mean willing rape XD
>Look at the arm! LOOK AT THE ARM, GOD DAMMIT! ;D
DeleteName her Gillian Hamilton. Make it so.
would be hilarious and intriguing if she fisted some female enemy's ass or vagina with that arm xD
ReplyDeletedid you chosen the tecnology where you will make the game? I mean, Flash, game maker, java, etc? Do you need a hand or something?
ReplyDeleteNah, we're set, thanks. It'll probably be coded in GML, though I won't be surprised if I end up rewriting it in C.
